In line with UNSDG 7, ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, AES Panama launched an initiative to bring electric power to the neighboring communities of Changuinola.

During the first phase of this project, AES built 50 km of electric lines and home installations in neighboring communities to our hydro power plant, providing electricity to 2,500 people for the first time and improving their quality of life in a significant way. Through this program the communities were able to benefit in many ways, from being able to turn on lights at night to the creation of new economic and social opportunities, including the possibility to create businesses and to enjoy the benefits of energy to receive better education, health services, traffic safety and healthy entertainment.

The second phase of the projects is expected to begin on 2021, benefitting hundreds of families in the Changuinola area.
