The new United States Ambassador to Panama, Kevin Marino Cabrera, paid an official visit to the AES plant located in Colón, considered the largest U.S. investment in the country. The company has been recognized with the Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE), granted by the U.S. Department of State, for its commitment to the development of renewable energy and its outstanding corporate social responsibility.
Ambassador Cabrera toured the facilities accompanied by Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panama, along with other company executives.
Ambassador Cabrera was welcomed by Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panama, who was joined by other executives during the tour of the power plant and the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal. This infrastructure is the first of its kind in Panama and throughout Central America, representing an important step toward the transition to a cleaner, more diversified, and secure energy matrix for the country.
With a private investment of USD 1.15 billion and an installed capacity of 381 megawatts (MW), the AES plant in Colón is a key project that makes a significant contribution to Panama’s energy transition. The use of LNG, a more efficient and environmentally friendly fuel, reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the energy sector.
“The AES plant in Colón not only represents the largest U.S. investment in Panama, but also serves as a model of innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility in the region,” said Miguel Bolinaga.
During the visit, the company’s social and environmental initiatives implemented in nearby communities were also highlighted, reaffirming AES Panama’s role as a strategic partner in the country’s sustainable development.
