AES Panamá Reaffirms Its Commitment to Sustainability and Gender Equity at the Women Economic Forum
May 20, 2025
As part of the Women Economic Forum (WEF) held in Panama, Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panamá, participated in the panel “Sustainable Innovation in Motion: Success Stories in the Energy, Maritime, and Real Estate Sectors,” where he highlighted the transformative role of sustainability with a gender perspective in the energy sector.
During his remarks, Bolinaga emphasized that sustainability is a strategic priority for AES Panamá, driving inclusive development, strengthening business resilience, and promoting shared value creation. “It is not an option, but a necessity. We are committed to actions that truly make a difference in communities and across the industry,” he stated.
One of the most relevant aspects of his participation was the company’s gender-focused approach. In this context, he presented the Soy Mujer Electricista program, designed to provide technical training to women interested in joining a sector traditionally dominated by men. “For us, sustainability also means creating real opportunities that transform lives,” Bolinaga added.
Additional concrete efforts to advance gender equity were also discussed, including job openings exclusively targeted to women and training programs for vulnerable communities. Bolinaga noted that advancing sustainability requires more than good intentions—it demands resources, decisive action, and the willingness to institutionalize change.
During the forum, AES Panamá’s comprehensive approach to sustainability was recognized, highlighting initiatives such as Reto Colón-Emprende, Mujeres con Energía, and Mujeres que Brillan, which focus on entrepreneurship, technical training, and women’s empowerment. These programs have received international recognition, including the IDB Award for Innovation in Gender and Diversity in Energy 2024.
The Women Economic Forum also recognized Miguel Bolinaga for his commitment to gender equity and his role on the Board of Directors, underscoring his leadership in promoting a more inclusive corporate culture.
In closing, Bolinaga called on the business sector to embrace a gender perspective as a driver of innovation and competitiveness. “When we open spaces for women’s development, we don’t just close gaps—we expand horizons.”
Through this participation, AES Panamá reaffirms its leadership in sustainability and inclusion, and its commitment to driving social transformation from within the energy sector.
