AES Panamá Celebrates EMPOWER 2025 and Examines Growth Prospects Amid Historic Opportunities
August 26, 2025
AES Panamá successfully held its annual EMPOWER 2025 event under the theme “360° Vision: Challenges and Opportunities,” bringing together leading business figures and experts to analyze the country’s economic outlook and the opportunities emerging in the current national and international context.
National Growth Outlook
The event featured a special presentation by renowned analyst Danilo Toro, who provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities Panama will face in 2025. During his keynote address, Toro stated that the country is experiencing “the best scenario we have had in the past decade and a half,” highlighting Panama’s unique competitive advantages that position it favorably on a global scale.
“We are facing historic opportunities. The Panama Canal alone represents development projects involving two economically strategic provinces. We have the construction of a new lake underway and a significant number of ports to be built in the short term, including one of considerable magnitude in Chiriquí,” Toro explained.
He also highlighted the country’s mining potential, noting that “Panama was the first country in the world to be conceived and developed under a multimodal system 500 years ago,” and emphasized the opportunities that a reopening of mining operations could bring, including immediate economic stimulation and job creation.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panamá and host of the event, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to innovation and the energy transition.
“We move forward with a team that gives its best every day, knowing that every step begins with the trust placed in us. Because every megawatt we deliver drives something greater: a growing business, a community that moves forward, a country in motion,” Bolinaga stated.
He also highlighted AES Panamá’s achievements, noting that the company currently generates 23% of the country’s total installed capacity, with a 33% share coming from renewable energy sources.
“We supply gas to some clients, renewable or solar energy to others. We work to adapt to the specific needs of each customer,” he added.
Recognitions and Certifications
During EMPOWER 2025, AES Panamá presented special recognitions to several clients, including Productos Toledano and Cervecería Nacional, in acknowledgment of their commitment and collaboration.
Comprehensive Economic Vision
Freddy Obando, Vice President of Liquefied Natural Gas for AES and Commercial Director of AES Panamá, also participated in the event, highlighting the investment opportunities presented by the current environment. He emphasized the importance of strategic alliances and AES Panamá’s role as a facilitator of national economic growth.
The event also addressed critical issues such as food security, planned urban growth, and the infrastructure challenges facing the country, noting that “between 2018 and 2023, nearly 800,000 Panamanians migrated from one province to another,” creating significant challenges related to public services, urban planning, and energy infrastructure.
Favorable International Context
Toro underscored that the international environment offers exceptional opportunities for Panama, particularly in light of global geopolitical tensions.
“Panama has the wind at its back. At this moment, it finds itself at the center of a very interesting geopolitical conversation that could prove highly productive for our territory,” he said, emphasizing the country’s potential as a global logistics and financial hub.
Ongoing Commitment
EMPOWER 2025 reaffirmed AES Panamá’s commitment to remaining a strategic partner in the country’s economic development by delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions that support customer growth and contribute to national progress.
In closing, Miguel Bolinaga stated: “We are pleased to work with clients who seek to achieve the same objectives we do and who demonstrate, through concrete actions, their commitment to a transition process that benefits companies, citizens, and ultimately the country as a whole.”
The event also included the participation of beneficiaries from Fundación AES Panamá’s Mujeres Brillan Program, an initiative designed to promote gender equity and women’s economic empowerment by providing financial support and specialized guidance to innovative projects led by women.
