Competitive Funds is a social program managed by the AES Panama Foundation that aims to fund different projects that contribute towards the social and economic development of the community. This initiative was done in response to the high unemployment rate in the province and the many small businesses and potential entrepreneurs that existed, in line with UNSDG 8.

The program is held through an open contest. Applicants can submit their proposal in five different categories: education and scholarships, culture and tourism, sports, entrepreneurship, and environment and safety. All the applications are evaluated by an external judging panel. The panel selects the winners who receive financing and guidance to successfully execute the projects and achieve their goals.

Impact:

More than USD $260K distributed among 20 projects and 14 scholarships in 2018 and 2023.
