UTP and Fundación AES Panamá Conclude the First Edition of the AES Chair in Colón
January 8, 2026
The Technological University of Panama (UTP) and Fundación AES Panamá held the closing ceremony of the AES Chair at UTP’s Colón Regional Campus, an initiative that brought together AES employees as guest lecturers and more than 60 UTP students from the province.
The AES Chair began on August 4 with a virtual opening ceremony organized by UTP’s National Directorate of Outreach and brought together 33 students from the university’s six faculties, as well as alumni, faculty members, administrative staff, and researchers from the regional campus. Its objective was to strengthen participants’ academic development through real-world experiences from the energy sector, bringing students closer to industry realities, best practices, tools, and skills that will facilitate their entry into the labor market.
“Bringing academia closer to the realities of the energy system is essential for developing talent and competitiveness. With UTP, we share a common purpose: enabling more young people to understand how energy is produced, managed, and used in Panama, and equipping them with the skills needed to contribute solutions from day one,” said Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panamá.
The closing event was attended by UTP authorities, Miguel Bolinaga, President of AES Panamá; Stephanie Lezcano, Executive Director of Fundación AES Panamá; and AES employees who served as instructors throughout the program.
Bolinaga congratulated each student, professor, and collaborator who made this first edition of the AES Chair possible. “Every contribution, every question, and every shared experience has enriched this space for learning and dialogue,” he stated.
Throughout the program, volunteer professionals from AES shared content on system operations, sustainability, safety, innovation, and market trends, promoting a comprehensive view of the energy sector. The first session was led by attorney Carlos Díaz with the topic “Overview of the Panamanian Electricity Market,” among other specialized modules.
A Partnership That Builds Lasting Capabilities
With this first edition, the AES Chair consolidates a collaborative model that strengthens both technical and soft skills—such as communication, critical thinking, and teamwork—while bringing students closer to industry standards and methodologies. The initiative reinforces a shared commitment to developing local talent, enhancing employability, and boosting the country’s competitiveness, starting from one of its key provinces: Colón.
