AES Panama has a mixed generation portfolio comprised of run-of-river plants (Esti, La Estrella, Los Valles), and reservoir plants (Bayano).
Our generation plants are located in opposite ends of the country, with distinct hydrological features, which allows diversifying energy generation sources.
AES Panama operates four energy plants with nine generation units.
At the end of 2007, AES Panama owned an installed capacity of 482 MW of power throughout four hydroelectric plants.
- Bayano, a reservoir run plant with three operating units with a capacity of 260 MW.
- Estí, a run-of-river hydroelectric plant, with a regulation reservoir and two operating units with a 120 MW capacity.
- La Estrella, a run-of-river hydroelectric plant, with a regulation reservoir and two operating units with a 47.2 MW capacity and
- Los Valles, a run-of-river hydroelectric plant with two operating units, generating a total of 55.4 MW, with a small compensation reservoir.
